Terms of Service
Effective date: 2024-09-01
These Terms govern your use of BeamIt, a zero-knowledge file transfer service. By using BeamIt, you agree to these Terms.
1. The Service
BeamIt encrypts files in your browser before upload. We store only the encrypted data and limited metadata (e.g., encrypted size, timestamps). We cannot decrypt your files without your key.
2. Your Responsibilities
- Only upload and share content you have the right to distribute.
- Do not use BeamIt for illegal, harmful, or abusive activity.
- Protect your decryption key; anyone with the key can access your files.
- Use appropriate security measures (such as antivirus software) when downloading files. Because files are encrypted client-side before upload, we cannot scan for viruses or malware. You download files at your own risk.
3. Accounts & Authentication
You may sign in using one-time codes sent to your email. Session cookies are essential to keep you signed in. You are responsible for activity under your account.
4. Content & Ownership
You retain ownership of your content. BeamIt does not claim rights to your files. Because we cannot decrypt your content, we cannot view or moderate it. We do not store filenames or file types. We only retain minimal transfer metadata necessary to operate the service (for example: encrypted object size, file count, retention period, statuses, timestamps, and a storage key).
Because files are encrypted in your browser before upload, we cannot scan them for viruses, malware, or other harmful content. You are solely responsible for ensuring files you upload are safe, and for using appropriate security measures (such as antivirus software) when downloading files shared with you. We accept no liability for any harm caused by malicious files transferred through our service.
5. Retention & Deletion
Encrypted files automatically expire based on the selected retention period (e.g., 72 hours by default). Once expired or deleted, the encrypted data is purged by our storage lifecycle.
6. Security & Encryption
Files are encrypted client-side using AES‑256‑GCM via the Web Crypto API. Keep your decryption key safe—if you lose it, we cannot recover your data.
7. Prohibited Use
- Illegal content or activity, malware, or attempts to disrupt services.
- Violations of intellectual property or privacy rights.
8. Third‑Party Providers
We use reputable infrastructure providers for storage and email delivery. Encrypted objects may be stored and processed in multiple regions; see our Privacy Policy for details.
9. Disclaimer
BeamIt is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis without warranties of any kind, express or implied.
10. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, BeamIt and its owners will not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service.
11. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of South Australia, Australia, without regard to its conflicts of law principles. Venue lies in the courts located in South Australia.
12. Changes
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be posted here with a new effective date.
